Hi everyone, it's Linh. |
Xin chào các bạn, tôi là Linh. |
Welcome to the Whiteboard Lessons. |
In this lesson, you'll learn how to say where you're from in Vietnamese |
cách giới thiệu bạn đến từ đâu trong tiếng Việt. |
In particular, I'm going to introduce you formal and informal way to introduce your hometown. |
And it's very easy. |
There's only one word you have to remember. |
So let's get started. |
First one, let's take a look at the dialogue to have an overview |
and to see what kind of questions you will probably be asked |
and how to respond to the question. Okay? |
Let's talk about the question first. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Alright! |
And how do we respond to that question? |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
One more time. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
Alright, easy, right? Only a few letters to remember. |
Now let's see what it means in English. |
We have anh đến từ đâu? |
Which means |
where are you from? |
But the structure will be a little bit different, okay? |
Anh means you. |
Đến means come. |
Từ is from and đâu is where. |
You come from where. |
That's the common structure in Vietnamese. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Where are you from? |
And then let's look at the answer. |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
Tôi is I. |
Đến is come. |
Từ is from. |
Thái Nguyên is a city in Vietnam. |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
So that means I'm from Thái Nguyên. |
One more time. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
Where are you from? |
I'm from Thái Nguyên. |
Now let's move on to the next part to see the sentence pattern |
and how we form the sentences. |
Hi, welcome back. |
Remember that our topic is how to tell where you're from in Vietnamese, right? |
How to tell about your hometown |
so you don't have to worry much about the question |
but pay attention on the answer only. |
Here we have |
tôi đến từ. |
And you put the place after that. |
Tôi is I. |
Đến, you can use like I am or I come. |
Từ means from. |
And then you put the name of the city or town that you're from. |
Tôi đến từ. |
It means I'm from or I come from. |
Tôi đến từ. |
For example |
tôi đến từ Hà Nội. |
Tôi đến từ Thái Nguyên. |
Tôi đến từ thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. |
Or |
tôi đến từ Sơn La. |
For example |
okay? |
Tôi đến từ. |
And then you put the place here. |
Now let's take a look at the vocabulary part to see |
what words we can use in this situation. |
Welcome back. |
Let's move on to the vocabulary part. |
Here I only have two words to introduce you. |
The first one is |
tôi. |
Very simple, right? Only one word. |
Tôi and it's very common as well. |
Tôi is I, okay? |
So this is the first person singular pronoun. |
Tôi. |
The second word that I want to introduce you is |
đến từ. |
It means come from. |
đến từ. |
As you see here, if we use these two words |
it can become a sentence like this. |
Tôi đến từ. |
Alright! |
Tôi đến từ. |
So tôi means I and đến từ means come from. |
Đến is come and từ is from. |
I come from somewhere. |
Easy, right? |
Let's move on to the next part. |
Hi, welcome back. |
All right, there are some things to remember in this situation. |
One is how to say in a formal way |
and one is how to say in an informal way. |
So I have only one word for you to remember. |
It's very easy. |
The question is where are you from? |
Which means |
bạn đến từ đâu? |
Bạn đến từ đâu? |
So in this situation, |
we have bạn as the pronoun and it's very formal |
and we can use bạn for colleagues, friends, acquaintances or strangers, |
people who you just met. |
Bạn đến từ đâu? |
Where are you from? |
But in an informal situation, |
when you know the age of the person, |
for example, like someone who is older than you, we use anh. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
And remember that ""anh"" is used for male only, okay? |
Someone who is a man and is older than you. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Okay, so one more time. |
Bạn đến từ đâu? |
We use informal situations and |
anh đến từ đâu? |
We use in informal situations and they all mean where are you from. |
Bạn đến từ đâu? |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Now you might be wondering what word we can use for female, right? |
So in this situation, we have chị. |
Chị is for female and for people who are older than you, okay? |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Chị đến từ đâu? |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
Chị đến từ đâu? |
And for bạn |
we can use for anyone in any situations |
except |
people who are older than you, okay? |
So just basically, this is very formal. |
That's it. |
Now let's move on to the next part, grammar point. |
Now we're going to talk about the grammar in this lesson. |
It's very easy, trust me. |
Right, we have four words to introduce to you |
which are very familiar because we mentioned before. |
The first one, we have đến. |
đến |
So in this situation, đến is the verb, okay? |
And it means come. |
Đến. |
And one more thing that I repeat many times that in Vietnamese, |
you don't have to conjugate the verbs |
which means you just need to use this verb with any pronouns. |
It remains the same. |
Đến. |
And the second one, tư. |
tư |
So in this situation, it means from and is a preposition |
okay? |
So we have two different kinds of words. |
The first one is the verb, |
Đến. |
and the second one, preposition. |
tư |
Okay? |
Đến. |
tư |
Now let's take a look at the third one. |
Bạ. |
As I mentioned before, in this situation, it's used for a polite or a formal way |
or for a general sense. |
Bạ, it means you. |
Another one that also means you is "anh". |
Anh. |
And we use this one in an informal way |
like in this situation. |
Anh đến từ đâu? |
And since we mentioned chị |
so we can also put here chị |
okay? |
And they'll all mean you. |
Anh. |
chị |
