Hello everyone, my name is Linh. |
Xin chào các bạn, tôi là Linh. |
Welcome to the Whiteboard Lessons. |
In today's lesson, you'll learn how to give your phone number in Vietnamese. |
Cách cho số điện thoại trong tiếng Việt. |
In particular, |
I'm going to introduce to you how to read numbers in Vietnamese, |
some sentence structures and also some grammar points. |
Are you ready? |
Let's go. |
Alright, let's look at the vocabulary first. |
I have numbers from 0 to 9, and I'm going to introduce to you |
how to pronounce them correctly. |
Không |
Remember that this one has no tone, so you have to keep it straight. |
Không |
Right, next one, number one. |
Một. |
So this one has dấu nặng, the dot, so we have to make it very heavy. |
Một |
Next one, number two. |
Hai |
No tone as well. |
Hai is like high. |
Alright, next one, number three. |
Ba |
So this one is letter A, right? |
So we have ba, ba. |
Clear? |
And the next one, number four. |
Bốn |
So here you have ô, nờ, ôn, bốn, bốn. |
Okay, and the next one, number five. |
Năm |
No tone as well. |
Năm. |
Next one, number six. |
Sáu |
Okay, sáu, sáu. |
Dấu sắc, sáu. |
Next one, number seven. |
Bảy |
This one is a little bit tricky, |
so this is a question mark. |
Dấu hoi, bảy, bảy. |
And the next one, number eight. |
Tám |
Dấu sắc, tám, tám. |
And the last one. |
Chín |
Okay, |
chín, dấu sắc as well. |
Alright, let's review all the vocabulary. |
Không, |
một, |
hai, |
ba, |
bốn, |
năm, |
sáu, |
bảy, |
tám, |
chín. |
Không, một, hai, ba, bốn, năm, sáu, bảy, tám, chín. |
Alright, very good. |
So let's take some time to review and practice. |
Now let's move on to the next one, dialogue. |
Alright, let's move on to the dialogue. |
If you want to ask for someone's phone number, we say |
Xin vui lòng cho biết số điện thoại của anh. |
Xin vui lòng cho biết số điện thoại của anh. |
Okay, so that is the question. |
Now how to respond to that? |
Số điện thoại của tôi là 063 3563 636. |
In Vietnam, usually a phone number has 10 numbers. |
And there's no rule how to read them or how to combine them together. |
It's up to you. |
Now let's take a look at the meaning of this dialogue. |
Let's take a look at the question first. |
Xin vui lòng cho biết số điện thoại của anh. |
We have Xin vui lòng. |
It means please. |
Next one, cho biết. |
Cho biết means like let me know or can I know. |
We have số is number. |
Điện thoại is phone. |
Số điện thoại. |
And của anh. |
Của means of. |
And anh means you. |
Xin vui lòng cho biết số điện thoại của anh. |
It means your phone number please. |
Or it means can you give me your phone number please. |
Now let's take a look at the response. |
Số điện thoại của tôi là. |
And then you put the number. |
Here we have my phone number is. |
Số điện thoại. |
Phone number. |
Của tôi. |
My. |
Là. |
Is. |
And then you put the number. |
Số điện thoại của tôi là. |
My phone number is. |
Now let's read one more time. |
Xin vui lòng cho biết số điện thoại của anh. |
Số điện thoại của tôi là. |
06 3356 36 36. |
Alright, let's move on to the next part and let's see how a sentence is structured. |
Now let's look at the sentence pattern. |
This pattern will be the structure that all of our dialogue will follow. |
Here we have. |
Số điện thoại của tôi là. |
Số điện thoại của tôi is the subject. |
My phone number. |
Là is the verb. |
And then number is the predicate. |
So it's a very simple sentence structure, right? |
It's the same in English. |
We have the subject, verb and then object or predicate. |
Số điện thoại is the subject. |
Của tôi is the possessive parallel. |
So basically, số điện thoại của tôi is the subject, right? |
Là is the verb. |
And then you put the predicate which is the number here. |
So my phone number is and then number. |
In today's lesson, I'm going to introduce to you three main grammar points |
which are also very important. |
Now let's take a look at the first one. |
Alright, the first one we have. |
Của. |
So you see that Của appears in Của tôi here and Của anh here. |
Của. |
It means of or belong to. |
So basically, Của is to indicate ownership. |
If you want to use it as a possessive pronoun, |
you just need to put the pronoun after this word. |
Của. |
And then something here. |
For example, Của anh, Của tôi. |
Okay, it means like of yours or of mine or it belongs to me, it belongs to you. |
Của anh, Của tôi. |
Let's move on to the second one. |
Tôi. |
Tôi is basically the first person singular pronoun which also means I. |
And tôi is pretty formal. |
So you only use with friends or colleagues or acquaintances, |
but you don't use with someone who is older than you because it's not very respectful. |
And the last one we have. |
Là. |
This means to be verb and this is used to link the subject, |
which is số điện thoại của tôi with the predicate, which is the number. |
Now, let's review one more time. |
Của. |
Tôi. |
Là. |
There are a few things that I want you to pay attention to. |
The first one when using tôi, |
this is a very formal word, the very formal pronoun. |
So basically, |
we use tôi when talking to someone that is similar or at the same age as you. |
For example, friends or colleagues or acquaintances. |
But if you're talking to someone who is older than you, |
we don't use that because it's not very respectful. |
Okay. |
Tôi. |
So tôi is like the most common and formal way to say I. |
Tôi, for example. |
Tôi là Linh. |
But if I'm your friend, I would say tớ là Linh, for example. |
Alright. |
Tôi. |
And the second one, |
one good thing about Vietnamese is that you don't have to conjugate the verb at all. |
So here we have |
là. |
It means to be verb, right? |
And you just need to put it after the noun, after the pronoun. |
Tôi là. |
And that's okay. |
For example, tôi là Linh. |
Or tôi là giáo viên. |
Or số điện thoại của tôi là. |
So here, this one means my phone numbers, right? |
And là stays the same. |
Alright. |
So let's move on to the last one. |
