Basically, "ฤแป ฤn" and "thแปฉc ฤn" both mean "food" in general and can be used interchangeably.
However, "thแปฉc ฤn" is also used to refer to the main dishes of a meal, apart from rice and soup, For your information, in a typical Vietnamese meal, there is a main dish (thแปฉc ฤn), rice (cฦกm) and soup (canh). There can be more than one main dish and soup can be replaced by boiled or stir-fried vegetables. Any food other than rice and soup is called "thแปฉc ฤn". "ฤแป ฤn" is rarely used in this case.
