Basically, "ฤ‘แป“ ฤƒn" and "thแปฉc ฤƒn" both mean "food" in general and can be used interchangeably.

However, "thแปฉc ฤƒn" is also used to refer to the main dishes of a meal, apart from rice and soup, For your information, in a typical Vietnamese meal, there is a main dish (thแปฉc ฤƒn), rice (cฦกm) and soup (canh). There can be more than one main dish and soup can be replaced by boiled or stir-fried vegetables. Any food other than rice and soup is called "thแปฉc ฤƒn". "ฤแป“ ฤƒn" is rarely used in this case.
