John: This is Must-Know Vietnamese Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 3. In this lesson, you'll learn words referring to animals.
John: These are words used to refer to a certain group of animals or characteristics of animals. You will be surprised how often Vietnamese people use animals to describe someone's personality! Don't mix them up!
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Nguyet: giả nai
Nguyet: trẻ trâu
Nguyet: cá vàng
Nguyet: cáo già
John: Nguyet, what's our first expression?
Nguyet: giả nai
John: literally meaning "to pretend to be a deer." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to pretend to be naive."
Nguyet: [SLOW] giả nai [NORMAL] giả nai
John: Listeners, please repeat.

John: Use this slang expression when you want to talk about somebody who pretends that they are naive and innocent.

John: literally meaning "goldfish," since a Vietnamese traffic police's uniform is yellow. But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "traffic police."

John: Use this slang expression when when you want to refer to traffic police. Be careful when you use this, because police might feel offended. Don’t use it in their presence.
