Let's talk first.
Can you come in and talk a little bit?
Please tell me about this.
I want to share this.
They're different, right?
So you'll see in Vietnamese sometimes we have different words
or different vocabulary to talk about one same thing.
And also in Vietnamese, we have formal and informal language.
So that is also the topic today.
Hi guys, it's Linh.
Welcome back to vietnamespod101.com.
The fastest, easiest and most fun way to learn Vietnamese.
And today we're going to discuss about formal and informal language.
Right, first, you need to understand what formal means in Vietnamese, right?
So we can use trang trọc.
Trang trọc means like very formal.
I don't find any other suitable words.
So trang trọc means like it's very formal, it's very polite.
And we usually use these words in like office environment or government environment.
Thông dục means like it's very casual, it's very informal.
So I'll introduce to you some pairs of words so that you can compare.
If you want to say to speak or to talk, we can say nói chuyệt.
Nói chuyệt is an informal way and it's very casual, you can use any time.
However, when it comes to formal, we need to say trao đổi.
Trao đổi actually means like discussed.
But if you want to be a little bit more formal and a little bit polite, especially at work,
we can say Chị cần trao đổi với em một chút.
Chị cần trao đổi với em một chút means I need to discuss with you or I need to talk to you in a formal way.
Next one, listen.
So in a casual way, we say nghe.
Nghe means like you listen or you hear something.
But at work, usually people will say tiếp thú.
So tiếp thú doesn't mean listen only, but it also means like you're listening, you're observing things that someone says.
Tiếp thú and nghe.
The next one, if you want to say like to plan something or to discuss about something or to view a plant,
we say Bàn.
If you want to talk about like discussing something with your friend, Bàn.
Bàn like to plan something.
Right, in sentence.
Bàn kế hoạch ngày mai đi.
Let's plan for tomorrow.
Bàn kế hoạch ngày mai đi.
However, at work, we use Thảo luật to discuss or to plan.
Thảo luật.
Chúng ta cần thảo luật về dự án này.
We need to discuss about this project.
Next one, to tell or to share something, we say Nghe.
Ok, Nghe, to tell a story.
Nghe.
And Tiếp thú.
So in this situation, these two words are like pretty similar.
However, if you want to be a little bit more formal, we can say Tiếp thú instead of Nghe.
Ok, it's like for friends and families.
Next one, if you want to say like to learn or to study something, we say Học.
Học means to study.
And if you want to think about something a little bit more serious or a little bit harder
to study and you need to do some research, we say Nghiên cứu.
Alright, so you'll be hearing Nghiên cứu, but like grammatically it should be pronounced
Nghiên cứu, alright?
Nowadays I know Vietnamese people speak very fast and we say Nghiên cứu, but it's the
same.
To do something or just to do something, we say Làm.
And to make it more formal, we say Chuyển khai, alright, let's do it.
We say Làm đi, Làm đi means like let's do it or Làm thôi, right?
But if you want to say it like please take time to finish that, we say Em Chuyển Khai
Cái này nhá, Em Chuyển Khai Cái này nhá, Em Chuyển Khai Cái này nhá means like
let's plan and do that and finish that in a formal situation.
Alright, next one is to teach.
In Vietnamese, we say Dạy, Dạy.
So you can either pronounce Dạy or Dạy is fine, Dạy.
And in a formal way, we say Đào tạo, Đào tạo sounds more formal and so usually we
say Dạy at school and Đào tạo like to train something at like professional environment,
Dạy and Đào tạo.
To think, usually we will say Ngĩ, Ngĩ, Ngĩ just simply means to think and a little
bit more formal we say Kênh nhắc, Kênh nhắc, Kênh nhắc, let me give you an example, Để
tôi nghĩ đã, Để tôi nghĩ đã, Để tôi nghĩ đã, Để tôi nghĩ đã.
But if you want to use Kênh nhắc, we say Tôi sẽ Kênh nhắc về việc này, Tôi sẽ
Kênh nhắc về việc này, Tôi sẽ Kênh nhắc về việc này, Tôi sẽ Kênh nhắc về
việc này means I'll think about that or I'll give it a thought in a very formal way and
it sounds very polite.
Next one, if you're very happy, we say Happy, right?
But in a casual way, we say Vui, Vui, Vui, Vui quá, vui quá, vui quá, vui quá
Cô ấy rất vui, cô ấy rất vui, she's very happy, cô ấy rất vui, however if you want
to say like someone is very happy at work or like if you want to describe someone's happiness
at work in a formal language, we use Phấn khởi, Phấn khởi, Phấn khởi, Phấn khởi,
Sếp rất phấn khởi vì kế hoạch đã thành công,
Nhanh, Nhanh means very fast or quick,
Nhanh, but Khẩn chương, Khẩn chương, Khẩn chương, Nhanh lên, nhanh lên, nhanh lên, nhanh lên,
Khẩn chương lên, Khẩn chương lên, Dẫn dắt, Dẫn dắt means like to lead and in a formal way we say
Lãnh đạo, Lãnh đạo, Lãnh đạo, so Lãnh đạo here means a leader and it also means a verb,
or like to lead someone or like to control or to manage,
means like he has led me through each story,
Anh ấy đã dẫn dắt tôi qua từng câu chuyện. However, at work we say Anh ấy đã lãnh đạo đội nhóm thành công,
Anh ấy đã lãnh đạo đội nhóm thành công, Anh ấy đã lãnh đạo đội nhóm thành công,
he has led his team successfully, Anh ấy đã lãnh đạo đội nhóm thành công,
Responsibility, this is a nice word,
we can use for any situations, any kinds of language,
it just means responsibility and if you want to make it more polite and more formal, more heavy,
we say
means heavy in Vietnamese language, traditional Vietnamese language, means responsibility so
when we say it sounds very serious and it sounds very polite and heavy,
all right the last one I want to share with you is
cố gắng means to try something and also we use
is more formal so in sentence
means I'll try
I'll try to get a bonus this month so those are some formal and informal vocabulary however
because I don't have a lot of time today so I'm just going to share with you some very
basic and common words so that you know like how different they are in Vietnamese and how we can
use them in some situations but if I have more time in the future and we're gonna do part two
or part three of this topic I'm happy to share with you like some more some deeper vocabulary
