Words for Renting an Apartment in Vietnamese

In this video today, we're going to talk about renting an apartment-related language.

I want to share with you some, maybe some vocabulary, or some just terms or sentences that you can use.

And you would know when you want to rent an apartment or a place to live in Vietnam.

What kind of language you will use and let's get started.

The first one if you want to say like renting an apartment, or renting a house, or renting a place to live.

In Vietnamese, you can say thuê nhà.

thuê nhà

thuê nhà, ok?

Thuê means “to rent” and nhà means “a house”.

It doesn't have to be “a house” all the time, but this is a word that we use for renting a place to live in general.

So thuê nhà, for example, you want to say “I am looking for an apartment to rent”, or “I'm looking for a place to rent”.

You can say

Tôi đang tìm thuê nhà.

See that we have đang here means ‘I am doing something”. It's the present continuous tense.

Tôi đang means “I am”, tìm means “to look for” or “to search for”, thuê nhà means “to rent an apartment”.

Tôi đang tìm thuê nhà means “I'm looking for a place to rent”.

So when you are looking for a place to rent, of course you are người thuê nhà.

người thuê nhà, ok?

How about “landlord”? How do we say this in Vietnamese?

We can say chủ nhà

chủ nhà

chủ has dấu hỏi and nhà has dấu huyền, chủ nhà is “the landlord”.

So in sentence, if you want to say that “Your landlord is very easy going”, you can say

Chủ nhà của tôi rất dễ tính.

In general, we usually use dễ tính and khó tính for chủ nhà because this is like the most important thing that we care, right?

So chủ nhà dễ tính and chủ nhà khó tính.

If you don't want to work with the landlords, maybe you can look for an apartment to rent through an agency and in this situation in Vietnamese we say

Người môi giới

So Người môi giới is like “an agent”, a person and if you want to say an agency, you can say Công ty môi giới

Công ty môi giới.

Công ty môi giới

Specifically if you want to say it like a real estate agent, you can say

Người môi giới bất động sản.

Bất động sản means “real estate”.

Vị trí thuận lợi

Vị trí thuận lợi means “convenient area” or “convenient location”.

In full sentence, you can say

Tôi đang tìm một căn hộ có vị trí thuận lợi.

means like “I'm looking for a place to rent in a suitable”, or “in a convenient location”.

The next one we care about when you rent an apartment or a place, of course we care about

like the facilities or all the conveniences around that area, right?

In Vietnamese, this word we can say

tiện ích

tiện ích means everything you can use around the neighborhood like supermarkets, swimming pools, maybe security or stuff like that.

in sentence, you can say

Căn hộ tôi đang ở có rất nhiều tiện ích.

Once you decide to rent this apartment or this house, of course you have to pay like some kind

of fee. For example, deposit, management fee, the rent, water bills or electricity bill.

In this situation, if you want to say the rent, in Vietnamese it's tiền thuê nhà.

tiền thuê nhà means “the rent”.

If you want to say “deposit money”, you can say tiền đặt cọc.

Alright, in full sentence, we can say

Tôi phải trả trước một tháng tiền thuê nhà và một tháng tiền đặt cọc.

That means “I have to pay one month rent and one month deposit in advance”.

For electricity bill, we say tiền điện.

tiền điện, ok?

And for water bill, we say tiền nước.

tiền nước

Ok?

If you want to say like “I have to pay around a million per month for electricity”, we can say

Mỗi tháng tôi phải trả khoảng một triệu tiền điện.

Alright, also we have management fee. In Vietnamese, we say tiền phí quản lý.

That means “management fee”.

Alright, after paying all the fees in advance, this is a time that you're packing and moving to the

new place. In Vietnamese, we can say dọn nhà.

dọn nhà

dọn nhà sometimes means like you're cleaning up your house or your place, but also means like you're moving, you're packing to move.

And also we have chuyển nhà

chuyển nhà

chuyển means “to move”, but it doesn't mean that you're moving the house. It just means “moving in”.

So we have dọn nhà and chuyển nhà.

And the last one, let's talk about people living around you. For example, if you want to talk about

your roommate or your flatmate, we can say

Bạn cùng nhà

Bạn cùng nhà.

Okay, that means “a friend in the same house” or “a friend in the same flat or apartment”.

Bạn cùng nhà.

If you want to say your roommate, you share the room with someone. In Vietnamese, we say

Bạn cùng phòng

Bạn cùng phòng means “roommate”.

And also you will have some neighbors. In Vietnamese, we say

Hàng xóm

Ok?
