Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you doing?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to answer this question and tell someone something about what you’re writing.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Bạn đang làm gì?
Tôi đang viết nhật ký.
Once more with the English translation.
Bạn đang làm gì?
“What are you doing?”
Tôi đang viết nhật ký.
“I'm writing my journal.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you doing?”
That's: Bạn đang làm gì?
Listen to it again: Bạn đang làm gì?, Bạn đang làm gì?
This Vietnamese sentence literally translates as “You are doing what?"
But it means “What are you doing?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Tôi đang viết [object].
“I'm writing [object].”
For example:
“I'm writing my journal.”
Tôi đang viết nhật ký., Tôi đang viết nhật ký.
