Vietnamese Expressions to Use in the Classroom

Want to speak real Vietnamese from your first lesson?

After doing so many videos, I realized that my talking time is a little bit high,

and sometimes I don't really use Vietnamese a lot when it comes to expressions in the classroom.

So today, I decided to make this video to make it up for you guys,

and I'm going to share with you some expressions in the classroom

so that sometimes I can speak more Vietnamese

and increase my Vietnamese talking time in every video

so that you guys can also improve your listening.

Starting from today, I'm going to use more Vietnamese in every video, okay?

And in order to be well prepared for that,

I'm going to provide you with some expressions that I'm going to use in the future videos.

First, in Vietnamese, every time that you call a teacher,

if that is a female teacher, you will call

So this is how you address them, how you address her, okay?

And if this is a male teacher, you will call or you will address him.

So in general, I would use

for the students.

In Vietnamese, it means you, right?

And it also can be used for students.

It's a little bit more formal, okay?

In case the teacher and the students are pretty much at the same age,

usually, we would just say

So in this case, I know that we have a lot of adult learners.

So I'm going to use

with you guys, okay?

So remember,

I think the very first activity that every teacher would use in the class or would do in the class

that is checking attendance, right?

In Vietnamese, we say

So we would say

Okay.

Now I'm gonna check attendance.

Now I'm gonna check your attendance.

The next activity would be checking homework.

Homework in Vietnamese means

Checking homework is

Now, let's check homework.

Today we are going to talk about

or today we are going to learn something.

Hôm nay chúng ta sẽ học về.

Today we're going to learn something.

Hôm nay chúng ta sẽ học về các câu trong lớp.

Today we're going to learn expressions in the classroom.

So if the teacher wants you to open the book at page something, she or he will say

Các bạn mở sách trang. You open the book at page something.

So please open the book at page something. Các bạn mở sách trang. We don't have any books here.

If the teacher wants you to look at like a specific part of the book or of the page,

he or she would say

means like please take a look at the parts the first part or the part number one

right so uh if the teacher wants to check your understanding or if you have any other questions

he or she would say

Các bạn có câu hỏi gì không? Do you have any questions?

Các bạn có câu hỏi gì không? comment comment

also there will be another sentence that the teacher can use

Các bạn có phần nào chưa rõ không? Is there anything that you're not clear?

Now this is the practice time. So in Vietnamese, we say

Bây giờ chúng ta cùng thực hành.

Bây giờ, now or at this point, chúng ta, you and I, chúng ta, we.

Cùng thực hành. Thực hành is to practice. Cùng means like together. Let's practice together.

Bây giờ chúng ta cùng thực hành. Bây giờ chúng ta cùng thực hành nhá.

When it comes to pair work or group work, the teacher can say

Bây giờ chúng ta cùng làm việc nhóm. Bây giờ chúng ta cùng làm việc nhóm.

Làm việc nhóm means team working or teamwork. Bây giờ chúng ta cùng làm việc nhóm.

Now let's do some group work. Bây giờ chúng ta cùng làm việc nhóm nhá.

Các bạn ơi, bây giờ chúng ta cùng làm việc nhóm.

Let's say you have 5 minutes or 10 minutes to prepare for your presentation or something.

The teacher would say

Các bạn có 10 phút để chuẩn bị.

Các bạn có 10 phút để chuẩn bị nhá.

Also there is another word that you can use as present.

Các bạn có 10 phút để chuẩn bị và trình bày.

Các bạn đã rõ yêu cầu để bày chưa?

Bây giờ chúng ta sẽ cùng làm việc nhóm.

Các bạn có 10 phút để chuẩn bị và trình bày.

Các bạn đã rõ yêu cầu để bày chưa?

The teacher will ask you to review some lessons or to review some grammar points or knowledge or something.

So probably he or she would say

So please remember to review or don't forget to review.

Các bạn nhớ ôn tập nhá.
