How to start?

So today we will talk about the pronunciation,

which is one of the most difficult things about Vietnamese.

I've known a lot of foreigners struggling with their pronunciations.

They know a lot of vocabularies, they know a lot of grammar,

and a lot of how to say...

They can easily mix sentences, but the thing is nobody understands

because of the accents, because of the tones.

But let's not talk about the accent today,

because I want to focus on the two very difficult but similar...

It sounds like similar, but it's actually very different sounds in Vietnamese,

which is NH and NG.

So let's see how we pronounce it in Vietnamese,

in different sentences or different words.

The NH in Vietnamese, you pronounce nhờ, nhờ.

So it's not like the N in English, okay? nhờ, nhờ.

Let's see how it looks in words.

Nhà, nhà

It's a house. Nhà.

This is my house.

No, it's not.

Nhà.

Nhà bạn ở đâu?

Where is your house?

So,

Nhà bạn ở đâu?

Nhanh, nhanh.

It means “fast”

Linh, bạn nói nhanh quá, tôi không nghe kịp.

It means “Linh, you speak too fast, I can't hear.”

Linh, bạn nói nhanh quá, tôi không nghe kịp.

Nói nhanh quá, không nghe kịp.

Sorry, I must speak slower.

Nhai, nhai.

Nhai kỹ thức ăn trước khi nuốt.

So it means “Chew food thoroughly before swallowing.”

Nhẹ, nhẹ.

So this one has dấu nặng.

So you have to be very nặng.

Nhẹ.

And nhẹ is the opposite of nặng.

So nhẹ- nặng.

Chiếc điện thoại mới này rất nhẹ.

Quả nho.

Nho, nho, nho, nho, nho, nho, nho.

Grapes.

Tôi thích ăn nho.

I like grapes.

Nhớ, nhớ.

Dấu sắc, dấu sắc.

Nhớ means “miss”. I miss you. I miss you.

So instead of nhờ, this one is ngờ. Ngờ, ngờ, ngờ, ngờ ok? Nhờ

Now let's take a look at these sentences.

Ngày, ngày.

It's “dates”.

Ngày, ngày.

So:

Ngày hôm qua

Ngày hôm nay

Ngày mai

Means “yesterday”, “today” and “tomorrow”.

Hôm qua/ Ngày hôm qua.

Ngày hôm nay

Ngon

Đồ ăn Việt Nam rất ngon.

Vietnamese food is delicious.

Tôi thích nghe nhạc.

So you will see that NG and NH in the same sentence.

So the opposite of ngắn is dài.

Dài- ngắn

Nghỉ ngơi

Dấu sắc.

Ngáp means “to yawn” or “yawning”.

And Ngáy, ngáy means snoring.
