In this lesson, you're going to learn how to use

common adverbs of frequency to talk about daily habits.

Of course, I'm going to introduce to you some vocabulary

some examples

how it looks in dialogues, and also a sentence pattern.

So, are they similar to English?

Are they easy to use?

So, let's take a look closely.

Let's get started.

First is,

let's take a look at the vocabulary first.

So, in this lesson, I'm going to introduce to you nine words, okay?

The first one, let's practice pronunciation with me.

luôn luôn

It means always.

And the short term, the short form of this word is luôn.

You can use either of them.

luôn luôn or luôn.

This is uôn

uôn

the rhythm.

luôn luôn okay?

The second one, we have

hàng ngày.

It means every day.

Hàng ngày.

Thường xuyên

thường xuyên

thường xuyên.

The fourth one

thường.

It means usually, okay?

Also, you can say thường thường.

It's similar to luôn and luân luân, so they're the same.

Thường, usually, okay?

Next one, đôi khi

đôi khi.

It means sometimes.

Đôi khi.

And next one

hiếm khi.

It means seldom.

Another one, you can also use thình thoảng

thình thoảng.

This one is a little bit tricky because it has dấu hỏi, right?

Thình thoảng.

It means seldom

very rarely, okay?

And the last one

không bao giờ.

It means never. Okay

now let's review one more time.

Now, one more time, but this one is a little bit faster.

That's the vocabulary today and now let's take a look at the sentence pattern

before we move on to the dialogue.

Let's take a look at the sentence pattern

and this pattern will be the structure that the dialogue will follow.

Okay, the first one we have

tôi.

And the next one, adverb of frequency

which is the vocabulary in the first part, okay?

And the last one, you put the verb after that.

So it's quite similar to English, right?

Tôi is the subject and instead of tôi,

you can use any other pronouns.

Tôi, adverb of frequency and verb.

For example, let's take a look at tôi first.

Tôi luôn luôn đi bộ.

Đi bộ.

It means to walk.

Tôi luôn luôn đi bộ.

Or tôi thường đi bộ.

Tôi thường đi bộ vào Chủ nhật.

For example, on Sunday,

tôi thường đi bộ vào Chủ nhật.

Tôi hiếm khi uống rượu.

For example, okay, so it's easy, right?

Another pronouns, you can also try cô ấy

which is she, or anh ấy, which is he, and bạn, which is you, okay?

So basically, this is the subject, adverb of frequency, and then verb, okay?

And pay attention that in Vietnamese

we don't have to conjugate the verb.

So any verbs that I introduce to you, you can just put directly after the pronoun.

Now let's move on to the next part.

Let's look at the dialogue

and when I speak I want you to pay attention to the vocabulary

that we mentioned before and see how they are used in the sentence, okay?

Let's go.

Bạn thường xuyên tập thể dục không?

This is the question, and how do we answer?

Không, tôi hiếm khi tập thể dục.

And if the answer is yes

có, tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

Có, tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

Alright, so let's look at the translation.

What does it mean in English?

Bạn thường xuyên tập thể dục không?

Do you regularly exercise?

Bạn is you.

Thường xuyên means regularly.

Tập thể dục. Exercise.

So basically, it literally means you regularly exercise.

No, it's like a tag question, right?

Do you regularly exercise? And for no, we say

không, tôi hiếm khi tập thể dục.

It means no, I regularly exercise.

So the structure is very similar to English.

Subject, adverb, and verb, okay?

Không, tôi hiếm khi tập thể dục.

And if yes

có, tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

Yes, I do every day.

Có, tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

Bạn thường xuyên tập thể dục không?

Không, tôi hiếm khi tập thể dục.

Có, tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

Now let's move on to the next part, examples.

Let's look at some speaking examples.

So based on the vocabulary, the sentence pattern,

and the dialogue we just mentioned

how do we make some other sentences?

Okay, the first one.

Anh ấy luôn Đi làm đúng giờ

Anh ấy, which is the subject

luôn, always, which is the adverb.

Đi làm đúng giờ, which is the verb.

Đi làm is a verb, right?

And đúng giờ.

Anh ấy luôn đi làm đúng giờ.

He always goes to work on time.

The second example.

Họ không bao giờ trễ hẹn.

Họ is they

không bao giờ, never

trễ hẹn, late.

Họ không bao giờ trễ hẹn.

They're never late.

So, họ is a subject

không bao giờ, never, which is the adverb.

Trễ hẹn. They're never late. ok

Now let's try some other examples.

We know that cô ấy is she, right?

And anh ấy is he, okay?

cô ấy thường xuyên bao giờ,

She always goes out.

cô ấy thường xuyên bao giờ,

Anh ấy hiếm khi hút thuốc.

He rarely smokes.

Anh ấy hiếm khi hút thuốc.

And that's how we apply the sentence pattern to make examples.

Let's move on to the next part.

Now I'm going to reveal two cultural points

when using adverbs of frequency.

The first one.

Have you noticed that there's a small arrow appeared here?

So basically, we put the adverb before the verb.

But in some situations, the adverb can go behind the verb.

For example,

tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

tập thể dục here is the verb, right?

And hàng ngày is the adverb.

Why is that?

So, for hàng ngày,

hàng ngày is the frequency.

Sometimes it goes behind the verb.

tôi tập thể dục hàng ngày.

What else?

tôi tập thể dục thường xuyên .

So, hàng ngày

thường xuyên can also go behind the verb.

And it makes sense. It's totally correct.

tôi tập thể dục thường xuyên .

The second tip when using adverbs of frequency in Vietnamese.

All of these words,

you can use them individually as a single sentence.

So basically, you don't have to put subject

when you want to answer a question.

For example,

Bạn thường xuyên tập thể dục không?

cô hàng ngày

like that.

Bạn thường xuyên tập thể dục không?

cô hàng ngày

Bạn thường xuyên tập thể dục không?

Or hàng không bao giờ

Something like that.

So, remember that

we can use the adverbs of frequency individually without any subject.

And it's like a short way to answer.

And this one is very casual.
