Chào Giang,

The song is very sweet. I know I don't have enough time to fully record all the songs I've written for her before her birthday, but I've decided to try to do acoustic recordings of them all, post them here, and mail her a cd with them as a happy birthday wish.

I don't have much up on YouTube yet, but I do have a bunch of music up on SoundCloud. You can check it out here: https://soundcloud.com/nickryan-6. There's all kinds of stuff up there - stuff I recorded straight to my phone, stuff I fully produced and recorded, and most recently, a song I produced for some friends of mine.

It's not the best recoring in the world, but you should check out the song Into The Daylight. I wrote this after my love told me about the festival of the Moon Godess. Forgive the shaky vocal...it was really hard not to cry while I sang it.

Anyhow, I'll be posting all my new stuff there as I finish it so you can hear. I'd love to know what you think

Chào Nick,

Wow, that song sounds romantic. Do you have a youtube channel or any site where you upload your music?

If possible, I wanna hear them too

Chào Giang,

I record and produce music on the side, so I have all the equipment I need to make the album. It's just a matter of finding the time.

I wrote another song about her on Monday...feeling so strongly about someone makes songs come so quickly! I used to call her "Sunshine" because I felt like my day didn't really begin until I talked to her. So, in remembering that, I titled my new song for her "Sunshine"

Chào Nick,

Making an album just for her is an amazing idea.

I'm sure she has been moved by what you have done for her and will always be so.

I hope that you can record your album soon.

Have a nice day,

Giang

Chào Giang,

It's always a pleasure talking with you.

Apologies about my misunderstanding with the lantern festival. I got a new vocabulary list from you all in my email about it so I assumed it was a bigger part of Vietnamese culture. In any case, all the pictures I've seen of them look very interesting.

I'm glad to hear you had a good women's day! Because of the situation with my love and her family, unfortunately, there isn't much I could do for her. I did write another song for her though. I have written probably about 10 or so for her so far, and I hope to record them all onto an album for her. It may not change anything for us, but she always said before how special I make her feel...if nothing else, she will still know that she is still special to me, now and always

Thank you for always saying nice words.

We do have lantern festivals in some special events but they are not a typical thing of Vietnamese culture.

I think lantern festivals are more popular in China, and Japan.

Thank you for asking about Vietnamese women's day. I had a great day and was well treated

Did you do something for your girl that day?

Anyway, take care and don't work too much. I hope you'll be able to keep your promise to your girlfriend.

See you later,

Giang

Chào Giang,

I always smile when I get replies from you

Did you have a nice lantern festival? I don't know much about it but it sounds really interesting. What about women's day? Did all the men you know treat you kindly?

I'm really glad to hear this explanation of pronunciation in Vietnamese music. I hope to write songs in Vietnamese one day and, as a songwriter, having liberty with the tone of words makes things much easier

I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to learn the song yet, but I promise I will! I keep my promises..after all, I promised my love I would learn Vietnamese for her, and even though we can't be together now, here I am still learning it

Chào Nick,

I'm so glad that you like it.

It is fine to change the beat and tone, like in English because even though the tone sounds different, the words are used in a certain context and you can also base on the surrounding words to understand its exact meaning. Therefore, sometimes in a Vietnamese song, a few words do not sound exactly the same as when you say them, but it is acceptable.

I hope you can sing this song by yourself soon.

Hẹn gặp lại.

Chào Giang,

Wow, I really like the song you recommended! I can usually learn new songs pretty quickly because I've been playing guitar for a long time and this one doesn't sound like it will be too hard to get the structure down. The hardest part will be singing the words properly! Thank you so much for sending me this - it was very kind of you

I've been wondering about Vietnamese music and have a question for you now that I've heard some. When songs are written in English, you can change the pitch and tone of any word or syllable to achieve the vocal melody you want, but in Vietnamese, words can change their meaning entirely based on their tone. Does the song you sent me stay true to the proper tones of words? I tried to follow along with the lyrics, but it was a little too fast for me to tell.

Cảm ơn nhiều lắm!

Chào Nick,

This is a nice song "Em trong mắt tôi" (You in my eyes), about the beauty of Vietnamese women in men's eyes. It is quite long and may be difficult for you, but I recommend because it is meaningful. Can you take a look at the beat and the lyric in this link? If it is too difficult, please let me know and I'll find an easier song.

Good luck with your Vietnamese learning and your love.

I hope you two will be able to overcome all the difficulties and be together soon.

Best,

Giang
