Vietnamese grammar is one of the most difficult things about the Vietnamese language
because we got many different ways to express one sentence.
And since I've noticed that you guys are very interested in grammar videos,
in this video today I'm going to share with you the top 10 grammar points
that you might not have known before.
Hello everyone, my name is Linh, welcome back to VietnamesePod101.com,
the fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Vietnamese.
And let's get started.
Đều means equal or equally as an adverb, right?
But in this video today, I want to introduce another meaning.
In this situation, đều is to emphasize,
In this situation, đều is to emphasize the subjects of the sentence.
Let's see what we got today.
So đều here to emphasize the subject which is
Những bộ phim ấy
Chúng tôi đều xem những bộ phim ấy rồi.
We all watched those movies.
means those books
Tôi, I, đều
Đều here to emphasize những quyển sách ấy
Đọc rồi, read already
So những quyển sách ấy tôi đều đọc rồi.
I have already read those books.
So one more time, remember that đều is used to emphasize the subjects of the sentence.
So we can put after the subject, okay?
The next one is
It means by myself.
So if you want to say you do something by yourself, you can just use tự and lấy in sentence.
Ví dụ, tôi tự làm lấy việc này.
means I do it by myself.
Tôi, I, tự làm, do, lấy việc này.
This thing or this job.
So tôi tự làm lấy việc này. I do it by myself.
So you've noticed that we put the verb in the middle of tự and lấy, okay?
Another example,
Cậu bé tự học ngoại ngữ. He studies foreign language by himself.
So you can either say cậu bé tự học ngoại ngữ or cậu bé tự học lấy ngoại ngữ, they're all fine.
There are two ways to say half.
In Vietnamese, the first one is nửa, which means a half, right?
And the second one is dưỡi, which means end a half.
Okay, so for example,
Ví dụ nhá, nửa năm sau.
That means a half year later.
Ba năm dưỡi.
That means three years and a half.
So when we use nửa, we use it at the beginning of the face.
And when we use dưỡi, we use it at the end of the face.
We also can use dưỡi for talking about time, for example,
Hai giờ dưỡi.
Or hai dưỡi, that means half past two.
Also, dưỡi we can use for money, for example,
Bốn triệu dưỡi.
That means four million and a half or four point five million.
Yeah, so dưỡi we can use for time and for money.
And remember that sometimes at some locations,
you will hear instead of saying dưỡi, they will use dưỡi.
Okay, instead of using dấu ngã, they will use dấu hỏi.
The next one is Cả và Tất Cả.
Cả, tất cả.
It means all or the whole.
So in sentence, for example,
Cả nhà đi xem Mỹ Tâm biểu diễn.
Means the whole family went to see Mỹ Tâm perform.
Cả nhà here means the whole family.
Cả nhà.
Chủ nhật họ đi chơi cả ngày.
That means they went out for the whole day on Sunday.
So Chủ nhật, Sunday.
Họ về, đi chơi, went out.
Cả ngày, the whole day.
Cả here we use before the noun which is danh từ.
Tất cả các sinh viên lớp này đều học tốt.
means all the students in this class are doing well.
Tất cả, các sinh viên, all the students.
Lớp này, this class.
Đều học tốt are doing well.
So remember đều, we just talked before, right?
Đều, here means all of them.
Tất cả các sinh viên lớp này đều học tốt.
Next one, let's talk about Mọi.
Mọi means every.
I think you know, right?
But in this video I'm going to introduce you another usage which is mọi and danh từ.
So we usually use them to talk about things that often occur in the past.
In sentence, ví dụ nhá.
Mọi năm tháng bảy rất nóng.
Mọi năm means every year, tháng bảy, July, rất nóng was very hot.
So in this situation when we use mọi năm tháng bảy rất nóng, it means like
mọi năm tháng bảy rất nóng nhưng năm nay tháng bảy không nóng.
Every year, July was often very hot but this year is not hot, something like that.
Okay, so mọi năm tháng bảy rất nóng.
Next one is từng and một.
We use từng, một to emphasize each individual thing or person in a group.
So in sentence, ví dụ nhá.
Cô giáo nói chuyện với từng sinh viên một.
Cô giáo, teacher, nói chuyện, talked, với từng sinh viên một, with or to each student.
Cô giáo nói chuyện với từng sinh viên một.
The teacher talked to each student in the class, okay.
So we use từng and một and we put the danh từ which is noun in the middle of từng and một,
từng sinh viên một, each student.
So in this situation, we use này, này, này to indicate emphatical things or actions.
Ví dụ, cô ấy nói được tiếng Trung này, tiếng Anh này, tiếng Pháp này.
She can speak Chinese, English and French.
Cô ấy nói được tiếng Trung này, tiếng Anh này, tiếng Pháp này.
Cô ấy nói được tiếng Trung này, tiếng Anh này, tiếng Pháp này.
Cô ấy thích đi du lịch này, thích nấu ăn này, thích xem phim này.
She enjoys traveling, cooking and watching movies.
Là or dặng, là, dặng, là, dặng.
So là and dặng are conjunctions to link the noun clause to the main clause in sentence.
Ví dụ, hôm qua anh ấy nói rằng anh ấy rất bận.
Hôm qua anh ấy nói rằng anh ấy rất bận.
Cô ấy bảo tôi là, cô ấy chưa có người yêu.
Cô ấy bảo tôi là, cô ấy chưa có người yêu.
She told me that she doesn't have a boyfriend.
We use à at the beginning of the sentence.
You imply something that you suddenly forgot and you just remember.
Ví dụ, à, cho tôi số của anh.
À, cho tôi số của anh.
Next one, một ít.
Một ít means a little or a little.
Ví dụ, một ít thời gian.
Một ít nước.
Một ít nước.
Mua một ít đồ ăn thôi.
Just buy a little food.
Both positive and negatively.
Last one, it also means a little.
But in Vietnamese, we say hơi.
Ví dụ nhá, anh ấy hơi ốm.
Means he's a little sick.
Although một ít and hơi both mean a little but we don't use
Anh ấy ốm một ít is not very natural but instead we use anh ấy hơi ốm.
So it means a little sick or a little tired.
That means she's a little slim or thin.
In this situation, you see that we use một ít before the noun but
for hơi we use before the adjective.
So một ít thời gian, a little time, hơi ốm, a little sick.
That's it for today.
Although we call them grammar points but it's actually just a word
and how to use them in the sentence to make it natural.
