So in this video today we're going to discuss about January

since this is like the first month of the year

so there will be a lot of things to talk about

and let's get started

Thời tiết vào tháng 1 lạnh giá ở miền Bắc, mát mẻ ở miền Trung và nóng bức ở miền Nam.

That means “The climate in January is very cold in the North, pretty cool in the center and very hot in the South”

Yeah, I think in January the weather difference is pretty clear

from the North to the center and the South of Vietnam

because in the North we have winter and in the South it's summer

So if you're traveling from the North to the South

in this time of the year you better prepare some clothes to change, right?

and also food and everything is going to be different

One of the biggest holidays of Vietnamese people is

ngày Tết Dương Lịch

Tết Dương Lịch

Tết Dương Lịch is “New Year” of course and it's in the regular calendar

Tết Dương Lịch is not as big as our Tết Nguyên Đán

Usually on Tết Dương Lịch we'll have one day off

but if it's on weekend then we can combine them together

For example, if Tết Dương Lịch January 1st is on Friday

we'll have like three days

and if it's on Thursday

sometimes our companies will allow us to take Friday off

like we have four days vacation

since we have a long holiday, right?

So people will travel to the South or the center of Vietnam

because it's warmer

For example, Đà Nẵng, Nha Trang or Phú Quốc

I personally don't travel on holidays in Vietnam

because it's super crowded everywhere

I have to say that

“It's a nightmare in Vietnam when traveling on public holidays”

because it's super super crowded

The service is not very good and it's just so full

I would prefer traveling on normal days in Vietnam

because it's better, it's quiet

and you get more time to relax and to visit places

without a lot of people

especially in the pandemic, right?

Tôi thường đi du lịch vào những dịp không phải ngày lễ

That means “I usually travel at times that are not on public holidays”

Also

Người Việt Nam gọi Tết Dương Lịch là Tết Tây và Tết Nguyên Đán là Tết Ta

So let's move on to Lunar New Year which is the biggest holiday of the Vietnamese people and it's super, super important to Vietnamese culture.

Tết Nguyên Đán

Tết Nguyên Đán là ngày lễ quan trọng nhất của người Việt Nam

“Lunar New Year is the most important holiday of Vietnamese people”

We will have like a very long holiday

It's around from 8 to 10 days

Người Việt Nam nghỉ Tết rất dài, khoảng từ 8 đến 10 ngày

So “Vietnamese people enjoy Lunar New Year in a very long vacation, around from 8 to 10 days”

On Tết Nguyên Đán we'll have a lot of good food such as

gà luộc

canh măng

bánh chưng

canh miến

canh bóng

Also we'll have

giò

some different kinds of giò such as

giò bò

giò thủ

giò lụa

all are from pork

In the south of Vietnam people will have

bánh tét

is similar to bánh chưng but it's from the south

During Tết Nguyên Đán we will buy a lot of kinds of flowers such as

hoa đào

hoa đào is very common and typical for the north

and

hoa mai

hoa mai is very common in the south of Vietnam

hoa tuyết mai

hoa tuyết mai is a very nice and beautiful kind of flower

hoa tuyết mai

Also

hoa violet

Hoặc

hoa lay ơn

hoa lay ơn are very common in Vietnamese families

Mừng tuổi or lì xì

Mừng tuổi

“Giving lucky money”

What else?

đi thăm họ hàng

“visiting relatives or families”

đi thăm họ hàng

and also we will visit some temples or pagodas to pray for the year

So in Vietnamese we can say

đi chùa đầu năm

‘going to the pagoda at the beginning of the year”

What else?

đi du lịch

“go traveling” because we have a long holiday, right?

Some people just prefer staying home because they have been working for the whole year

Một số người thường thích ở nhà nghỉ ngơi

Drinking is very popular on Tết holiday

Mọi người thường uống rượu và hát karaoke trong dịp Tết Nguyên Đán

That means “People usually drink and sing during Tet holiday”

Next one, let's talk about Rằm tháng Giêng

Rằm tháng Giêng is one of the biggest full moon days of Vietnamese people besides Rằm tháng Chạp

Do you remember?Rằm tháng Chạp

Rằm tháng Giêng is the full moon day of January, lunar calendar

Usually some people who live in the countryside

and work in cities such as Đà Nẵng, Hà Nội or Sài Gòn

when they go back to their hometown and enjoy Tết holiday

usually they will stay until Rằm tháng Giêng

So that means they will not work until Rằm tháng Giêng and just enjoy the long holiday

Những người ở ngoại tỉnh thường ăn tết đến tận Rằm tháng Giêng

That means “People who live in the countryside usually celebrate that holiday until the full moon of January”

In Vietnam there is a sentence that we usually say to each other on January

Lunar calendar which is

Tháng giêng là tháng ăn chơi

That means “January is the fun month” or “January is a month for fun”

Tháng giêng là tháng ăn chơi that means on January usually people will just eat and have fun

Alright so next one or also the last one

Du lịch tâm linh

Du lịch tâm linh là một hình thức rất phổ biến ở Việt Nam gần đây

That means “Spiritual tourism is a very popular trend or form in Vietnam recently”

Tháng giêng là tháng ăn chơi, right?

so people will go to pagodas or temples to travel and to pray at the same time

Some very popular places for du lịch tâm linh that are

Bái Đính

Tràng An

Côn Đảo

Chùa Hương

And

Yên Tử

So those are very popular places for spiritual tourism in Vietnam
