Hi guys, it's been a while.
My name is Ling and you're watching vietnamespod101.com,
the factiest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Vietnamese.
Let's say you're already students and you want to learn something in Vietnam,
or you want to send your kids to some Vietnamese schools.
What are some things that you should know about Vietnamese school's culture?
So let's discuss that today.
Number one is
The number of students in a class can be up to 50 students.
The number of students in a class can be up to 50 students.
It means the student's number of a class can be up to 50 students.
Sometimes 60 or 70, because if it's a university class,
that would be about 60 or 70 students.
But when it comes to high school classes, it's going to be around 40 or 50,
and it's very common in Vietnam.
So how do the kids focus?
Usually the teachers will give a lot of exercises or assignments,
and we're going to learn by groups or by teams,
so that we'll have an equal chance to speak and to participate in the class.
So the number one common things and typical things about Vietnamese schools is
the student's number is up to like 50 students.
What are some things that you should know about Vietnamese school's culture?
In Vietnam, there is a high school and a high school.
In Vietnam, there is a high school and a high school.
In Vietnam,
there is means like half or they're half or they are.
Trường đúng tuyến is the school, right?
Đúng tuyến is like the correct line or the right line.
Trường trái tuyến means like the different line or opposite line.
So what it means here is in Vietnam, basically,
we'll have to choose different schools to study, right?
When you choose the school that is in the district that you love,
it's called trường đúng tuyến.
Trường đúng tuyến, that means you attend schools in your area, in your living area.
And trường trái tuyến means like schools that are like in different districts from where you live.
Trường trái tuyến, okay?
So ở Việt Nam có trường đúng tuyến và trường trái tuyến.
Basically, studying in trường đúng tuyến will be cheaper
because you obviously can enter that school.
But if you want to enter a school in a different district, which is trường trái tuyến,
then you will have to pay a little bit higher for like school fee, something like that.
Mỗi lớp means each class or every class.
Sẽ có means there will be.
Sẽ có or they will have
Sẽ có một giáo viên chủ nhiệm means like the primary teacher of the class
or the main teacher of the class, giáo viên chủ nhiệm.
So that teacher, giáo viên chủ nhiệm will be in charge of like all the activities
and the student's result, learning result of the class.
Giáo viên chủ nhiệm, okay?
In university, trên trường đại học university,
there will be cố vấn học tập.
Cố vấn học tập, we don't say giáo viên chủ nhiệm anymore,
but we say cố vấn học tập means like learning consultant or education consultant.
Cố vấn học tập, giáo viên chủ nhiệm.
Đa số các trường học ở Việt Nam dành cho cả học sinh nam và học sinh nữ.
Đa số các trường học ở Việt Nam dành cho cả học sinh nam và học sinh nữ.
Đa số means most or like almost.
Các trường học ở Việt Nam, schools in Việt Nam or like Vietnamese schools,
dành cho means like is meant to be.
Dành cho or is for.
Cả học sinh nam và học sinh nữ.
Cả here means both.
Học sinh nam, male students and học sinh nữ, female students.
So like most schools in Vietnam are for both female and male students.
I think there will be some schools that are for only male students
or only female students, I'm not very sure,
but like almost, almost schools that I know are for both of them.
Các lớp học ở Việt Nam đều bắt đầu từ rất sớm.
Các lớp học all classes ở Việt Nam, in Việt Nam đều bắt đầu từ rất sớm, very early.
All classes in Vietnam start very early in the morning.
It means students will have a lot of subjects throughout the day, right?
Sometimes four, sometimes five.
Each class will be around 45 minutes duration.
So that means they will have to start very early from like 7 a.m. or 7.15.
So it's very common in Vietnam that students will have to wake up very early
and have breakfast and then go to school.
That's the reason why we're late a lot, especially in winter.
Đôi khi, sometimes, phải học, have to study, cả ngày, all day, ở trường, at school.
Học sinh đôi khi phải học cả ngày ở trường.
Students sometimes have to study all day at school.
Yeah, because we have a lot of subjects every day, right?
So it means we have to start very early in the day
and then it'll finish very late in the afternoon, like late afternoon.
So sometimes they also have extra classes.
And it's also convenient for the parents
because they don't have to like spend a lot of time traveling to pick them up.
Học sinh cấp 1 có 2 ngày nghỉ.
Meaning elementary students or primary students have 2 days off per week.
So that means they have to study from Monday to Friday.
It's different with secondary students and high school students
because they only have one.
So in this case, how do we say
Học sinh cấp 2 có 1 ngày nghỉ.
Học sinh cấp 2 và cấp 3 có 1 ngày nghỉ.
Meaning secondary and high school students have 1 day off per week.
Học sinh cấp 1 elementary students,
Học sinh cấp 2 secondary students,
and Học sinh cấp 3 high school students.
Ngày nghỉ means a day off.
Học thêm means to attend extra classes or extra classes.
Học thêm meaning having extra classes
or extra classes are very common or popular in Vietnam.
A lot of Vietnamese students need to attend extra classes
in order to understand clearly what they are taught in the main classes.
And also the parents will be more like confident about their kids
if they have extra classes
because like they don't really have to work with them at home
in terms of exercises or something like that.
Because of the programs in Vietnam are very heavy
are very difficult for Vietnamese students.
So extra classes are very common.
Vào những dịp lễ lớn
Phụ huynh thường tặng quà cho giáo viên
vào những dịp lễ lớn
meaning parents usually or often
give some presents to teachers in public holidays.
I don't know about other Asian cultures
but it's very common in Vietnam
because it's the way to show appreciation to the teachers
and usually we only have like a few big holidays throughout the year
so giving some presents to the teachers
is a way to thank them for taking care of the kids.
Let me translate it correctly.
Tiên học lễ
Tiên means first
but in Vietnamese traditional language.
Học lễ means to study obedience
or to study manners or to have good attitude.
Học học văn
Học means after or later.
Học study
Văn is like knowledge in general.
Tiên học lễ, học học văn
is like a very very traditional and famous proverb
in Vietnam for all students.
Tiên học lễ, học học văn
we need to have good attitude first before learning anything.
That's it for today.
Very fast, right?
And it's very interesting to talk about some different topics
aside from learning Vietnamese only.
