A country culture can exist everywhere, right?
Whether it's in a wedding, a funeral, or businesses.
In this video today, I'm gonna share with you some common culture in businesses
so that you know when you have a business with a Vietnamese person,
what we should notice and what we should not notice, okay?
Hello everyone, my name is Linh.
Welcome back to vietnamespod101.com,
the fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Vietnamese.
And let's get started.
Meaning sending an invitation and document needed before the meeting.
Nowadays, every time we have a meeting or a training, a presentation or something,
we will send all the materials or document needed to the people that we invited.
Also, it's very very important to set a time and date, right?
So I think it's common everywhere.
Number two or the second rule, which is
có mặt đúng giờ của buổi học means be on time, okay?
Every time you have a meeting or an appointment,
especially a business appointment, please be on time.
There is a word for Vietnamese people which is cao su, giờ cao su.
Giờ cao su means like you're always late or you're always delaying the time or something.
So this is like a very bad habit of some Vietnamese people,
but when it comes to business meetings, it has to be on time.
meaning to prepare some snacks for the meeting or for the appointments.
When it comes to long meetings, especially trainings,
it's better for the participants if we can prepare some snacks or some water for them, okay?
So don't forget to chuẩn bị đồ ăn nhẹ cho buổi học, okay?
meaning Vietnamese people rarely work or partner with family members or friends.
I don't know why but this is very common in Vietnam
because it's very hard to work with people who you know.
When working with a stranger or when working with people you haven't known before,
it's very easy to negotiate or it's very easy to deal with some tough situations
because there is not much like emotional aspects affecting the situation.
I also have some experience working with some friends and it's very hard to negotiate
because we understand each other very well and that's why knowing a lot sometimes is not very good.
Việc trước thả thuyết sao meaning Vietnamese people usually work first and negotiate later.
So that means once you've known each other for some time and you have already built trust or
rapport, some people tend to work first, go for it, before actually negotiating some situation
in terms of salary or like work hours, benefits or responsibilities.
I used to see like some friends they had some business ideas and they decided to work together
without actually telling the responsibilities and benefits of each person leading to like a lack of
communication. After that the business didn't go well just because they didn't have proper
agreements beforehand. That's why it's very common in Vietnam and it's not easy for startups to last
for a long time because they just didn't research and prepare properly. This is also one of the
common culture which is not very good but it happens somewhere. So if you partner with a
Vietnamese person make sure that everything is clear from the beginning and set clear expectations
so that it won't create inconvenience later.
Những người thành công là những người có mối quan hệ rộng meaning successful people are
people who have broad connections or like a lot of relationships. I think it's also common everywhere
when you have a lot of connections and relationships in different fields. It's easier for you to sort
out some difficult situations because people will help you, will support you based on what they have
or based on what they know. It's very common in Vietnam if you're very successful that means you
have a lot a lot of connections and relationships with big guys. For example people who work in the
government or police or like managers or business owners something like that.
thích sự an toàn meaning Vietnamese people don't like to take risk and they like safety something
like that. Let me explain of course in every country there will be like different kinds of
people people who would like to take risk people who don't want to take risk or something like that.
However in Vietnam I think it's very common for Vietnamese people not to take risk because it's
risky. Of course when we take risk there will be like a lot of opportunities to grow when it comes
to business deals but a lot of Vietnamese people just prefer being in their comfort zone and having
a safe or like less risky job so that is not very challenging. It's really hard to say like
how many percent people who like to take risk or not but successful people are usually people who
are willing to take risk or take challenges so I believe that depends on the profession depends
on the job or the work that you're doing it's easier for you to decide whether to take risk or not.
people usually look for stable jobs. Công việc ổn định is a very very common term in Vietnam
because a lot of Vietnamese parents want their children to have a stable job so that it's not
too risky it's not very challenging it's stable and it's comfortable however nowadays I believe
that there are a lot of young people who don't want to have a stable job because they want more
challenges so that they can develop themselves more and they can grow more so that's why this
is like a very common term for like a little bit old generations
Thu nhập ở miền Bắc cao hơn ở miền Nam một chút means like salary range or income
in the north is a little bit higher than in the south I don't know why I think maybe because
Ho Chi Minh City is a more developed city than Hanoi there are like more job opportunities
and Hanoi is more like a politic city so that's why I believe that we don't have a lot of like
big and developed businesses than in Ho Chi Minh City and that's why the living cost is a little
bit slower and the salary range is a little bit lower as well
Lãnh đạo ở các công ty Việt Nam rất quyền lực
means leaders or business owners of Vietnamese companies are very powerful I don't know how
about in your country but in Vietnam once you are a business owner you're a director or like
you're a leader in your company it means you have a lot of power so I would try to be a business
owner so that I have more power but I will use that in a good way those are 10 very common business
cultures or rules happening in Vietnam and I hope it helps so let me know if you have any questions
