How to ask someone for a favor.

In Vietnamese, there are many ways to do so.

Expressing invitations, suggestions, or requests,

or even asking someone not to do something.

So in this video today, I'm going to introduce to you all of them

so that you have an overview about asking for a favor.

The first one, you can use the word

hảy.

hảy, dấu ngã, okay.

hảy means like please do something, just simply like that.

In sentence,

And also, you can put đi at the end of the sentence

to make it like more convincing.

like please read this book, okay.

Another example,

hảy làm việc cẩn thận, please do the job carefully, or do the work carefully.

Please eat well, or please eat carefully.

Right, in Vietnamese, we have a song named

Thôi anh hãy về, it sounds like this.

Hãy về, cứ yên lòng, rồi dông tố sẽ qua.

Thôi anh cứ đi.

So instead of using hảy, we can also use cứ.

And now let's talk about the second word, which is cứ.

So cứ actually means exactly the same as hảy.

And the way you use cứ in the sentence is also the same.

Let's take a look at some examples.

cứ bấm chuông, anh đến thì cứ bấm chuông means ring the bell when you come, anh đến thì cứ bấm chuông, anh đến thì cứ bấm chuông, cứ gọi tôi khi nào bạn dành, cứ gọi tôi khi nào bạn dành means call me when you're free, cứ gọi tôi khi nào bạn dành, cứ gọi tôi khi nào bạn dành nhá.

We talked about đi at the end of the sentence, right?

Now let's take a look at some examples to make it more clearer.

đi means to go, but when you put đi at the end of the sentence, it means you're asking someone to do something.

Ản đi, anh đi, ăn đi, anh đi, eat, as you talk to a baby

Ản đi, đứng đây đi, đứng đây đi, stand here, ơ ơ, đứng đây đi

Read this sentence.

Sit here.

Stand up.

Stand up please.

Another word that we can use to like ask someone to do something, which is to put nhé at the end of the sentence.

When we speak faster, it's going to be nhá.

It sounds like completely different, right?

So now let's take a look at some examples and how I speak that naturally.

So instead of using nhé, you can also use nhớ.

They are the same.

When will you call me?

Wait for me here.

Please make a report for me.

Let's go watch a movie.

Mời

Mời means to invite.

In sentence, mời ngồi.

Mời ngồi means have a seat please.

Mời cô đi theo tôi.

Please follow me.

Mời chị vào trong này.

Ah, mời chị vào trong này.

Xin mời anh phát biểu.

So instead of using mời, you can also use xin mời and it sounds more formal.

So you can use at work or at some professional environment.

Xin mời anh phát biểu.

Ok, last one if you want to ask someone not to do something, we use đừng.

Đừng means don't.

Don't do something.

Ok, in sentence, đừng nói to, em bé đang ngủ.

Đừng nói to, em bé đang ngủ.

Don't speak loudly, the baby is sleeping.

Đừng đi hướng đó.

Do not go that way.

Don't go that way.

This way.

Don't listen to him.

I can't believe it.

Don't listen to him. You can't believe him or you can't trust him.

And if you want to make it more seriously, you can actually put the subject at the beginning of the sentence.

Chị đừng nghe anh ấy.

You please don't listen to him ever.

Em xin chị, chị đừng nghe anh ấy nói.

I beg you, please don't listen to what he's saying, something like that.
