Okay, let's go.
Those are some gestures that I'm going to introduce to you today.
Unfortunately, Vietnam is not a country where Vietnamese people,
where the citizens are familiar with body language.
I don't know why, but I see some of the people
who are very comfortable using body language or gestures.
But most of us, I think most people around me, they don't use them a lot.
But it's okay, let's talk about that today.
I'm going to share with you some very common gestures in Vietnam
and the meaning of them and also like how to use them in a suitable situation, okay?
Hello everyone, my name is Linh.
Welcome back to vietnamespod101.com.
The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Vietnamese.
And let's get started.
The first one, xin chào.
Easy, right?
Xin chào.
Oh, xin chào.
And if you want to say goodbye, it's also the same.
Bye.
Tạm biệt.
Tạm biệt.
Okay, bye nhé.
Xin chào.
Yeah, easy, right?
Okay, next one.
It means like you can't hear or you don't hear anything.
Ưm, không nghe thấy gì, không nghe thấy gì, không nghe thấy gì.
I can't hear you.
It's me, it's me.
Just like this, it's me, là tôi, là tôi, it's me, là tôi.
Next one.
Can you guess?
Yeah, tôi không biết, tôi không biết, tôi không biết, không biết, không biết.
Can you guess?
Ah, I forgot it, I forgot.
So you'll be noticing that sometimes when we speak fast in Vietnamese,
we don't really pronounce very clearly as quên mất rồi.
It sounds like this, quên mất rồi, quên mất đôi.
So it's like a very light linking word that we just connect the words naturally.
Something like that.
Can you guess?
Stop, stop, please stop or stop it.
Stop, stop, please stop.
High five.
Clap your hands, clap your hands, clap your hands.
Clap your hands, clap your hands.
Yes, another one would be
so-so, yeah so-so or it's pretty normal or like
cũng tạp tạp, something like that.
Like yeah, it's pretty normal or it's okay, it's quite good.
Next one.
Good job, good job or like it's really good.
So tốt, tốt, tốt.
You can also use this gesture for it's delicious or it's good, this food is good.
Ngon, ngon, ngon, ngon, ngon, ngon, ngon.
Một chút, một chút, một chút, một chút.
Anh chị có ăn cay không?
Do you want some spicy?
Do you want some spicy?
A little.
Next one.
Like no, no, I don't want it.
No, no, no, no, no, please.
Means no.
The next one.
What does this mean?
Okay, it means okay or good, it's good.
You can also use like this.
Okay, chiều mai ba giờ nhá.
Okay, chiều mai ba giờ nhá.
Okay, chiều mai ba giờ nhá.
Okay.
Đằng sau, đằng sau, đằng sau.
Đằng sau means like behind you, behind you.
So when you want to point something behind someone, we can do that.
And the opposite to đằng sau is đằng trước, đằng trước.
But we don't really have a body language for that.
So we just like...
We also can do like that for đằng sau, đằng sau.
The next one.
It's like come here, come here, come here.
So in Vietnamese, we say vào đây, vào đây, vào đây, vào đây, vào đây, vào đây.
So for older people, you want to show respect, we can do like this.
But for younger people, we can do like this.
Okay.
And this one, we can also use for pets.
And this one, we can also use for pets.
So that's why if we want to show some respect.
This is more polite and more respectful.
Like go, go, just go.
Means like please go.
Okay.
Okay.
This is so basic, right?
Hoàn hô, hoàn hô, hoàn hô, hoàn hô, hoàn hô.
It's like over there.
Roll scissors paper, right?
So in Vietnamese, we say đấm, lá, kẹo, đấm.
Đấm is not a rock, đấm is like to punch.
Đấm, lá, lá is leaf.
Lá, lá, kẹo, scissors, kẹo, đấm, lá, kẹo, đấm, lá, kẹo.
But actually, we say 1, 2, 3 is like 1, 2, 3.
So we don't really say like rock, scissors, paper.
But we say 1, 2, 3.
Next one is like...
It means like so what or what does it mean, what is it supposed to mean or like what do you mean?
It's like oh my god of Vietnamese.
So we can actually say oh my god in many, many different ways.
When you're shocked.
When you're shocked or like when you talk to your baby.
So it's like when you don't like someone and you want like you're being a little bit mean.
Something like that.
But when you're shocked and when you are terrified.
These are different expressions for Vietnamese people that we usually do.
Yeah, so it's been very interesting making this video.
I really enjoyed it as well.
So I hope that I have provided you with some very common gestures in Vietnam.
So all of them are pretty normal and pretty casual.
You don't have to worry when using them at all.
And I hope that it's gonna connect us a little bit better, right?
Because I know that there are some some gestures
and some body language that are very similar to yours.
