Summer is here and do you wonder how Vietnamese people spend summer holiday in Vietnam?

And today, not only we'll talk about some culture or some main activities,

but also we'll learn some vocabulary to talk about that.

So let's get started.

Usually in Vietnam, there are different kinds of weather, of climate.

So if in the north, we have summer, winter, autumn and spring very like clearly,

but in the south of Vietnam, it's summer whole year.

So they basically don't have like summer time.

However, when it comes to summer break, we say...

Nghì hê means summer vacation or summer break.

So it's around like from May, June, July.

So people have some time to travel with the kids.

And that's how we spend summer in Vietnam.

However, what exactly do we do during that time?

Usually the number one, the most common things in Vietnam is traveling.

And in Vietnamese, we say...

We can go to a lot of places.

For example...

means going to the beach.

And...

means to go to the mountains.

Or to go hiking.

Next one, we can...

to travel abroad.

But this sounds a little bit impossible during the pandemic, right?

And by the way, how are things in your country now?

Also for some people who don't travel or who don't study or travel abroad,

they can go back to their hometown to visit their family.

For example...

So I remember when I was very small,

I would enjoy going back to my hometown very much

because I really love spending time playing with my cousins, brothers and sisters.

I loved going to my hometown when I was small.

It's not like I don't enjoy it anymore,

but because my grandparents moved to the city already

and they don't live in the hometown anymore, in the countryside anymore.

So we don't really go back there.

But I think in the childhood of every child in Vietnam,

they love to go to the countryside to visit their grandparents.

Summer break, but it's also a time to study.

It's not like regular study, but it's about some extra classes.

And trust me, this is like a very interesting activity for kids during the summer

because if they don't go to school for a long time,

they might lose their interest in learning, right?

So we have some...

Lớp học thêm means extra classes.

And it's not only for children, but also for adults.

For example...

means dance class for both children and adults.

Or...

Lớp học nấu ăn means cooking class.

And also probably...

And of course, we also have...

Right.

So those classes are examples of extra classes

that people usually do when they have free time,

especially in summer because the kids are not studying, right?

So they don't have to like take care of them all the time.

They don't really have to follow them all the time with lessons, with school lessons.

So it's a little more relaxing for the parents as well.

The next activity that we usually do when we have free time,

not only in summer break, but also like any time that we want,

it's also a very popular activity recently,

which is meditation course or retreat, okay?

So nowadays, a lot of Vietnamese people enjoy joining meditation courses or retreats.

So in Vietnamese, we say...

Tham gia hóa tu.

And or...

Tham gia hóa tu means to attend a meditation course.

And tham gia hóa tu is a little bit more religious

because you'll be doing some religious activities while being in this course.

Okay, so usually Vietnamese parents really like to send their kids to these courses

so that they learn a little bit more about how to control their mind or their behavior or manners.

So this is one of the very common activities in Vietnam these days.

Also, one of the very popular activities nowadays is to learn languages,

especially English because it's very important to us.

So summertime is also a chance for us to develop ourselves and to learn new things

because we have more time, right?

So...

Học ngoại ngữ means to learn languages or to learn another language.

Học ngoại ngữ, it can be English, it can be French, it can be Korean,

Another activity that we'd like to do in summer holidays is...

means to exercise in general.

And there are a lot of activities, for example...

or...

So those activities are to improve your not only physical health but also mental health.

And since we will be traveling a lot during summer, right?

So it's very good to have a nice body and a strong health.

Also, we love shopping, especially girls, you know, right?

So during summer holidays, we have a lot of chance to travel or to meet people,

so we'd love to have some new outfits.

And...

means to go shopping, and it's a borrowing word.

Also, since the pandemic is still spreading a lot and it's not safe to travel abroad,

and it's not possible as well, especially when we're not vaccinated yet.

that can provide us like literally everything.

Another activity that we like to do during summer is to like...

how to say... to renovate our house.

Because we have plenty of time and the price is a little bit more affordable

compared to the end of the year when everybody wants to fix their house.

It's not only about traveling, it's also about how to improve our health,

activities that can help us improve our life quality.
