Vietnamese Phrases to Talk about your Daily Routine

This morning I woke up, I went to work, I had breakfast, I went out for coffee.

So how do you describe all of them in Vietnamese?

So this video today is going to be some phrases that you can use to describe your daily routine.

And let's get started.

First, let's get started with I wake up at something.

So in this situation, you can use

Tôi thức dậy lúc…

That means “I wake up at…”

And then if you want to put the time, do you remember how to talk about time in Vietnamese?

So let's review quickly from 1 to 10.

Một

Hai

Bốn

Năm

Sáu

Bảy

Tám

Chín

Mười

And then you can put the word giờ, giờ, giờ

That means “o'clock”.

So for example,

Một giờ means 1 o'clock.

And hai giờ means 2 o'clock.

Tôi thức dậy lúc sáu giờ.

That means “I wake up at 6 o'clock”.

Tôi đánh răng rửa mặt

Okay, this one means “I brush my teeth and I wash my face”.

Tôi đánh răng rửa mặt.

And then if you want to put the time, you can just add like for example

Sáu giờ or bảy giờ

Tôi đánh răng rửa mặt.

Tôi tập thể dục ở…

means “I do exercise” or "I work out at…”

For example, if in the morning you exercise in the park, then you can say

Tôi tập thể dục ở công viên.

công viên means “the park”.

Tôi ăn sáng lúc…

Tôi ăn sáng lúc… means “I have breakfast at…”

And then bảy giờ for example

bảy giờ: “7 o'clock”

Tôi ăn sáng lúc bảy giờ.

Tôi đi tắm

Tắm means I “take a shower”

Tôi đi tắm

You can say

Tôi đi tắm lúc bảy rưỡi means “I take a shower at half past 7”

Tôi đi tắm lúc bảy rưỡi.

Or you can say

Tôi đi tắm sau khi tập thể dục.

That means “I take a shower after exercising.”

When you start going to work, then you can use this phrase

Tôi đi làm

Tôi đi làm means “I go to work”

But if you want to add like the transportation, for example

Tôi đi làm bằng xe máy.

Then you can use bằng means “by”

And xe máy means “motorbike”

Tôi đi làm bằng xe máy.

But if you go to work by walking

Or you go to work on foot

Then you can say

Tôi đi bộ đi làm.

One more thing if you go to work by car

Then you can say

Tôi đi làm bằng ô tô.

Ok?

Tôi đi làm bằng xe máy.

Tôi đi bộ đi làm.

Tôi đi làm bằng ô tô.

So usually what do you do at work?

You can check emails, you can have meetings

You can talk to your colleagues

For example, in Vietnamese if you want to say

“I check emails”, then you can say

Tôi kiểm tra email.

Or if you want to say “I have a meeting”

Then you can say

Tôi có cuộc họp.

So if you have a meeting at 10 o'clock

Then you can say

Tôi có cuộc họp lúc 10 giờ.

Now it's time for lunch

If you have lunch with your colleagues

Then you can say

Tôi ăn trưa với đồng nghiệp.

That means “I have lunch with my colleagues.”

If you want to say at 12 o'clock

Then you can say

Tôi ăn trưa với đồng nghiệp lúc 12 giờ.

So after a long day at work

And it's time to go home

You want to say

“I go home at something”

In Vietnamese you can say

Tôi trở về nhà lúc 6 giờ.

For example

Tôi trở về nhà lúc 6 giờ means “I go home at 6 o'clock.”

Some activities you want to do at home

For example

Watching movies, listening to music

Cooking or something

In Vietnamese for listening to music

You can say

Nghe nhạc

So if you want to say

“I listen to music at home”

You can say

Tôi nghe nhạc ở nhà.

“I listen to music at home”.

Also if you want to say

“Watching movies”

You can say

Xem phim

Ok?

Tôi xem phim means “I watch movies”.

Tôi xem phim.

Ok?

If you want to combine watching movies and listening to music

Then you can say

Tôi nghe nhạc và xem phim.

Và here means “and"

Tôi nghe nhạc và xem phim.

But if you want to say

Or listen to music or watch movies

Then you can say

Tôi nghe nhạc hoặc xem phim.

Hoặc here means “or”.

Also if you want to say

That you are doing some housework

In Vietnamese you can say

Tôi làm việc nhà.

Việc means “work”

Nhà means “house”

So Việc nhà, “housework”

Tôi làm việc nhà.

And the last one is time to go to bed

Usually what time do you go to bed?

For me I go to bed around 10

But I can only sleep around 12 to 1 am

So in Vietnamese to make it more natural

Usually we say

Tôi lên giường đi ngủ.

That means “I go to bed and prepare to sleep.”

Tôi lên giường đi ngủ.

So that's it for today

Everything you can do in a day
