KEY VOCAB AND PHRASES
Becky: Let's have a closer look at some of the words and phrases from this lesson. The first word is..
Huyen: đủ
Becky: which means “enough.” You can use it as an adjective or adverb to express a good enough amount, number, or extent of something.
Huyen: We often put the adverb rồi, meaning “already” at the end of the sentence containing đủ.
Becky: This will emphasize that the current amount or number or extent is already good, and there is no need to add more.
Huyen: You can use đủ with a noun, uncountable or countable, with an adjective, or with a verb.
Becky: In this case, the structure will be..
Huyen: verb... đủ...then you can add an adverb and finish with rồi.
Becky: It will mean “do something enough already.”
Becky: Okay, what's the next word?
Huyen: nạp
Becky: which means “to add” or “to refill.” You can use it with nouns such as “money,” “battery,” or “energy.”
Huyen: nạp, followed by a noun, means to add more to the current amount. For example...nạp tiền means “to recharge” and nạp năng lượng means “to fill with energy,” for example, for cars, machines or even your body.
Becky: Okay, what's the next word?
Huyen: nhập
Becky: which means “to input,” for example data or a number.
Huyen: Right. You can say...nhập dữ liệu
Becky: which means “to input data,”
Huyen: or nhập số
Becky: “input number,”
Huyen: You can also say...nhập thông tin
Becky: Meaning “input information.” Okay, now onto the lesson focus.

Lesson focus

Becky: In this lesson you will learn how to use “how” questions to ask about the method of doing something.
Huyen: In Vietnamese, “how” is như thế nào?”
Becky: To ask how to do something, just add the verb phrase indicating an action right before our phrase.
Huyen: So, the structure is verb...object... như thế nào?
Becky: Huyen, can you give us some sample sentences?
Huyen: Sure. For example...Đọc từ này như thế nào?
Becky: which literally means “How to read this word?”
Huyen: Đi đến Lăng Bác như thế nào?
Becky: “How to get to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum?”
Huyen: Ăn món này như thế nào?
Becky: “How to eat this food?”
Huyen: Another way to ask how to do something is by using the expression bằng cách nào? meaning “by what way?”
Becky: However, this expression can only be used to ask about the means of doing something, for example, means of transportation, or tools needed to do something.
Huyen: Right. If an activity doesn't require tools or means we don't use bằng cách nào.
Becky: The sentence structure is...
Huyen: verb...object... bằng cách nào? For example.. Đi đến lăng Bác bằng cách nào?
Becky: “How do you get to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum?” In this sentence we’re asking about the means of transportation that may be required to go there.
Huyen: Ăn món này bằng cách nào?
Becky: “How to eat this food?” For example, with chopsticks or a spoon, or maybe it can be eaten by hand.

Outro

Becky: Okay, that’s all for this lesson. Thank you for listening, everyone, and we’ll see you next time! Bye!
Huyen: Cảm ơn các bạn.
