Pronounciation

Postby fournicade38351 » December 20th, 2013 7:01 am

I would like to confirm whether the following 2 words have a silent endings.
The audio recordings in the flash card section sound as such (to me).

Does the word " Tạm " have a silent "m" ?
1) Tạm biệt

Does the word "Bạn" have a silent "n" ?
2) Bạn có khỏe không?

Hi fournicade38351,

Thank you for your question.
In Vietnamese, we do not pronounce the final consonants as in English. The final consonants in Vietnamese go with a vowel right in front of it to make a complete sound/rhyme. That's why you could not hear the "m" sound in "tạm" or "n" sound in "bạn".

You can try the Pronunciation series to have a better idea of Vietnamese pronunciation.
